WordHint adds concise meanings above difficult English words while you browse in Safari.
Enable WordHint
- Open any webpage in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu beside the address bar, then choose Manage Extensions.
- Turn on WordHint, then tap Done.
- Open the Page Menu again, choose WordHint, then choose Always Allow and Always Allow on Every Website.
Common questions
Why does WordHint request website access?
Safari requires permission before an extension can read page text and add hints. WordHint processes that text locally and does not send it to a server.
Why are no hints shown?
Check that the page contains enough English text, website access is allowed, and that your reading level fits the page. Higher levels (C1/C2) show fewer, harder words on purpose—lower the level if almost nothing is marked.
How do reading levels A1–C2 work?
Your reading level is your approximate English ability. WordHint hides words easier than that level and prioritizes harder ones. Higher levels (C1/C2) show fewer, harder words—this is expected, not a coverage bug. Lower the level if almost nothing is marked.
What can I do with saved vocabulary?
Open a saved word for meanings, example sentences, and on-device speech. WordHint Pro unlocks flashcards for short review sessions and removes the free save limit.
How do I remove hints?
Open WordHint from Safari and choose Hide Word Hints. Reloading the page also restores its original text.
Does WordHint require an AI model?
No. The deterministic offline dictionary always works. When semantic re-ranking is enabled, WordHint still runs on device and only chooses from existing dictionary senses.
